When breaking the fast, you should not eat carelessly in large portions. Breaking the fast is not a "revenge" event for not eating and drinking for almost 12 hours. Instead, when the stomach is empty, Moms and Dads must pay attention to the intake that enters for a smooth fasting tomorrow. For that, Moms need to know what foods should be avoided when breaking the fast.

Healthy foods that are recommended to be used as an iftar menu include soft foods that are easily digested and nutritionally balanced. For example, foods that contain fiber, protein, complex carbohydrates and other nutrients. However, unfortunately there are still many people who neglect to choose food for breaking the fast.

Foods to Avoid When Breaking the Fast

Usually, unhealthy and prohibited foods are chosen to break the fast. This habit should be stopped to prevent health problems in the future, Moms. Here is a list of foods that should be avoided when breaking the fast:

1. Fried foods

Fried foods are indeed very tempting to break the fast. But unfortunately, oily foods such as fried foods, french fries and others should be avoided. This is because fried foods are high in saturated fat, which can increase stomach acid production and a feeling of fullness in the stomach. This can increase the risk of indigestion.

In addition, another reason why fried foods should be consumed less when breaking the fast is that the fat content in fried foods will be stored in the body and accumulate as fatty tissue that can make weight jump.

2. Spicy food

For spicy food lovers, this Ramadan is also a time to "fast" from spicy food. Spicy food should be avoided when breaking the fast as it can make an empty stomach uncomfortable and increase stomach acid.

Spicy foods can also injure the stomach and intestines and trigger other health problems if consumed when breaking the fast such as digestive problems, diarrhea, and heartburn. So, during fasting, avoid spicy foods during iftar and suhoor.

3. Fatty foods

As mentioned earlier, high-fat and trans-fat foods such as fried foods should be avoided when breaking the fast. Both types of fat can increase cholesterol and are difficult for the body to digest.

High-fat foods can also cause indigestion and make you feel uncomfortable. Instead, opt for healthier food processing methods such as boiling, steaming or grilling.

4. Food that's too salty

Salty and savory foods are indeed appetizing. But eating too much salty food when breaking the fast can trigger you to eat more and stimulate excessive thirst. That's why salty foods that are high in salt can increase the risk of dehydration.

Other health problems triggered by salty foods are increased blood pressure, indigestion, heart disease and putting additional strain on the kidneys which work harder than usual.

5. Sweet foods

Other foods to avoid when breaking the fast are sugary foods and drinks. Avoid foods with high sugar content such as donuts, foods with artificial sweeteners and canned sweet drinks.

Apart from increasing blood sugar levels in the body, excessive consumption of sweet foods during Ramadan can cause weight gain. If you want to eat sweet foods, you can switch to fresh fruits, vegetables, coconut water, or fruit juice without added sugar.

By staying away from foods that should be avoided when breaking the fast, it means that Moms maintain the health of the family during the month of Ramadan. Hopefully, your fast will always go smoothly, Moms and Dads! (Aq/MKK)
